SecurePath v4.0

I have recently installed a new san, it has 2 hsg80's, 2 2/16 switches and 2 new servers. Both of the servers boot from the san. I have installed securepath 4.0 onto the servers. For a week or so they were fine and then I found that the securepath service had terminated with Event ID: 5, the warning was: WARNING: -Cannot find service securepath: Error = 11004, getservbyname(). Does anyone know what this is?

Cheers David

How's your DNS setup working? I've never done any programming on Windows, but there's a function by that name in UNIX, and it's used to resolve TCP names to IP addresses.

Re: SecurePath v4.0

Thanks Vince,

The DNS setup is fine, The servers are part of an existing domain and all the other servers have an identical setup. I have looked up getservbyname and agree that it looks like DNS. We also have added a third server and that is running fine.

Thanks but keep trying!!!!

Re: SecurePath v4.0

David,

To be absolutely sure that DNS is woking properly on this particular server, run nslookup in a cmd window.

Otherwise, the "Cannot find service securepath" sounds like the service may not be running. You can check this via start->settings->control panel->serivces (I think - haven't got a win2k server here).

If it's not there or not running, try removing and re-installing it.

Sorry, but I haven't much experience with SecurePath... but nobody else has been responding to you, so I guess I'm all you have here. ;-}

Good luck,

Re: SecurePath v4.0

getservbyname() is a funtion to resolve service names to port numbers.

gethostbyname() resolves hostnames to IP addresses.

Maybe check the Windows equivalent of /etc/services and see if securepath has a port number associated with it (or hardcode the port number).

I'm not a Windows/SecurePath expert by any means, but I hope this helps.

Good Luck.

Re: SecurePath v4.0

Is secure path still functioning? I would check to see if it is the agent or the SP manager.

Re: SecurePath v4.0

Thanks for your reply guys, since I could not resolve this issue I have rolled back to sp 3.1a and all is now well.

Re: SecurePath v4.0

I should ahve thought of this earlier. If you're going to use SP 4.0, follow the specifications outlined in the matrix below. If the criteria isn't met it will not function properly.
Since you mention it is working now with the previous version I can only assume something was out of whack...
