Re: what is the reason of "L-Port 1 private, 2 phantom"

It means that the device does not run fabric protocol, but FC_AL - fibre channel (private) arbitrated loop. "private" means that the device only uses an 8-bit address, not a full 24-bit.

What device is connected to the port?

Re: what is the reason of "L-Port 1 private, 2 phantom"

Hi Uwe,

Thanks for your suggestion. Here is the description of the setup. I am having a IBM Server running with AIX 3.5, with 6239 bunddled HBA, connected to Brocade 3800 switch.

As per understanding we dont need to configure AIX HBA driver for Fabric or Loop topologies. They are always in auto sensing mode.

Please suggest where we are going wrong.

Thanks

Hello Sushil,

I don't know if you're doing something wrong (do you have a problem with the setup?), but the fibre channel switch does 'autosensing', too. I am not familiar with AIX, but on Windows and other operating systems it is possible to choose the so-called 'topology' that tells the fibre channel adapter driver which protocol (fabric or loop) to use.

Re: what is the reason of "L-Port 1 private, 2 phantom"

You're HBA is running in "loop" mode. It is not an "error", it's just one of the three topologies (fabric, public loop, private loop" they can be in.
I believe that AIX default is loop mode. You change it with using smit or smitty. I do not have the exact instructions, but I'm sure you can contact IBM on how to effect this change.
