migration fails where are the error logs

Howdy,
So previously we ran a trial version on 8.06 but we 
-could not have more then 3 nodes
-could not upgrade
So were trying it again this time with real licensed software and 4 nodes at the latest version
Got the cluster all up and running on 4 nodes and proceeded to check out the migration tool
So I cloned a RHEL8 vm on the vmware side and powered it off and proceeded to run the migration tool
It runs for a bit and then fails in the "Prepare Source Workload"
Just says failed, no reason, no error, no log nothing.
Run it again by just trying that task ,... runs for 30 mins doing who knows what and then fails with no messages
Run it again and the vm-essentails manager crashes and burns ... no messages
Where are the details and log information so I can determine what is broken and fix it

i never found the logs but I noticed it was powered up on the vmware side so I checked
Skip Prechecks and it did not powerup and moved just fine. A nice error message might be handy
