Cannot delete old servers from OneView 8.x

Cannot delete old servers from OneView 8.x

Hello,

We are trying to remove old servers (5530 Storage Controller) from OneView 8.x but it always fails with the error :
'No management capabilities are available for this server hardware because it is not a supported model.

Resolution

No action is necessary. This server hardware can be used for inventory and power planning.'

For other servers when you tried multiple times to remove them, after a while you could check the 'force' option to delete them but in this case the force option never appears. The servers have already been turned off.
We have this problem since the beginning of the version 8 and with the latest releases we have the message 'Unable to get type data' on all our servers.

Can anyone tell us how to remove these machines ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,

It seems you’re encountering difficulties removing old servers from HPE OneView 8.x. Let’s address this issue:

Unsupported Model Error:
The error message indicates that the server hardware (5530 Storage Controller) is not a supported model, hence no management capabilities are available.
The suggested resolution is that no action is necessary, and the server hardware can still be used for inventory and power planning.
Missing “Force” Option:
Normally, after multiple unsuccessful removal attempts, you can use the “force” option to delete servers. However, in your case, this option doesn’t appear.
Let’s explore alternative steps:
Troubleshooting Steps:
Reboot OneView:
Try rebooting OneView and let it sit overnight. Sometimes, this resolves issues with server status.
Server Refresh:
Before rebooting, consider refreshing the servers. This ensures that OneView has the latest information about them.
Check for Updates:
Ensure you’re using the latest version of OneView. Updates might address compatibility issues.
Review Logs:
Check OneView logs for any relevant error messages related to these servers.

Hope this work for you.
Best regards,

Re: Cannot delete old servers from OneView 8.x

Hello,

Thank you for your answer.
The reboot of the OneView appliance has already been done, with no success.
We are running the last 8.x version (  8.90.00-0490022 ).
I can't refresh the servers as they aren't online anymore; they have already been decommissioned/dereacked.

Thanks for your help

Marc

A reboot of the appliance wasn't a needed step here. We're these servers monitored? If so, the error here means there are 1 or more Server Hardware Type that shouldn't be associated any longer. If you do find these in the Server Hardware Type resource view, and you no longer have anymore of those servers, monitored or managed, delete it. Then attempt to forcefully delete the server hardware resource.

If this doesn't work, please open a support case, as a L2 support engineer needs to help here.

Re: Cannot delete old servers from OneView 8.x

@ChrisLynch Yes these server were managed in the past.

From the Server Inventory report, if I remove the Gen8/9/10/11 servers, I only get these two '5530 Storage controller' left.

I don't know why but these two servers are impossible to remove, I never get the option to forcefully remove them.
I only have this :

Is there another way to remove these servers ?

Thanks

Re: Cannot delete old servers from OneView 8.x

I don't know how these servers were able to be added as Managed "servers".  They are storage controllers for HPE Storage solutions, not general purpose servers (like the DL380 Gen11 for example).  The only want to forcibly remove these is via the API.  Or, open a support case to get L2 support assistance on removing them via alternate support-led methods.

Re: Cannot delete old servers from OneView 8.x

Thanks for your answer, I will open a support case because even through powershell ( get-ovserver -name "xxx.yyy.zzz" | Remove-OVServer -Force -Verbose ) it fails to remove the server.
