Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

@mdjmdj Can I ask how you managed to do that. Im not that well versed in HPE SPP Custom Download webtool. All I manage to get done is to include stuff.

I just want to exclude the one thing that keeping my dashboard from beeing all green.  AMD Power Management component...in this case

Did you perhaps just not fill in the box for Power Managment at all ?

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

I know I'm not answering the question you asked, but you can update the PMC manually and that will solve the issue.  However i did notice that the latest dot-rev of OneView changed the behavior for me.   I used to be able to just update the PMC and reboot.  Now I have to power off the server and reapply the SPP to get it to take (even though it doesn't actually reapply it).

HPE is too busy circling the drain of being "The Edge to Cloud Platform as a Service Company" to care about those of us that buy their hardware.   It's maddening.

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

Patch bundle 2023.09.00.02 is now available at the below link:
https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/softwaredetails?softwareId=MTX_5362c69ffdb64a73a873b14b3d

Has anyone tried this to see if the PMC version is now the same for both AMD and Intel?

UPDATE:
The patch bundle does not contain PMC firmware, so that rules that problem out - it would be nice if I could find PMC firmware for Intel with version 1.1.0, then OneView might just resolve itself.
In the meantime, I will continue to delay updating firmware on over 500 HPE servers, because I don't want over 500 devices all complaining about something thats not actually broken and taking up my teams time...

They're available.  I've been manually installing them for two months.

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

I ran into the same issue and unfortunately can only tell you to keep away from 2023.09*. Last working update is 2023.03. Since all newer versions are only recommended, I don't see why to update to the crappiest of crap. Luckily I found out pretty soon so it was no problem to downgrade to the last reasonable version.

Anyway I have to hand it to you HPE: You're failing all along the line!
You provide an obviously problematic update and you are not able to fix this within how much time? Shame on you!

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

Other than the PMC problem, and occasional inconsistent behavior on a few servers out of the hundred I've updated, I haven't had any other issues.  I blame the inconsistent behavior on OneView, not the SPP however.  Of course every environment is different.

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

We've given up applying firmware via OneView & do it the old fashioned way via the ilo.

Even then P64606_001_gen10spp-2023.09.00.00-SPP2023090000.2023_0902.19 hangs at "Wait Task for Bmc" in the Installation Queue after applying "Innovation Engine Firmware" & has to be given a manual Cold Reboot from the ilo.

The "Power Management Controller Firmware" still doesn't get updated & we had to download the package & install it individually from the ilo.

HTH, but totally unacceptible.

Dell is 100x better. Support is better. Techs are better. Their OpenManage isn't as advanced as HPEs but it's not this buggy either.

Most important thing is to bookmark everything. As it is just not possible to find stuff at HPE. But even with bookmarks 80% of the time I end up in some error or timeout or auth issue.

Re: Getting sFick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

Just tried to go to the software center and get that update, only to find that their site is down for maintenance. In what world do you take a site down for maintenance during business hours?? Come on HPE! However looking at the version level it's not available, maybe they pulled it back?

Without advisory... never! I can now - after the error on the HPE page is gone - access the downloads here: My HPE Software Center

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

The issue has also been fixed via the 2023.09.00.03 patch bundle, where there is a new PMC component that is not split across versions and platforms.

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

@TKop How do I update this patch using OneView?
It's only a .7z-file which OneView refuses. Renaming it to .zip allows an upload but resulting in an error that this is not a valid patchfile. Also release notes are stating that this is an update over 2023.09.00.00 so I think somehow I have to merge these two files.

I found a so called "convenience download" for 2023.09.00.01 but not for .03. Please HP don't tell me I have to merge this by hand...!?

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

@drehstrom79 you can find a convenience download of the combined base SPP + patch bundle on the custom SPP portal.  Try this link to find the 2023.09.00.00 + Patch Bundle 3 download option: https://spp.hpe.com/custom/#/sources/YnAwMDY0MDAuMTY5NDQ3NjgwMA

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

@TKop After update OV to version 8.7 I'm not able to register SPPs in vLCM via OV4VC any more.
I also renewed the selfsigned certificate and installed it in vCenter server.

Anybody else facing this isssue?

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

I've been following this issue and have tried importing the "2023.09.00.00 + Patch Bundle 3" version from the Custom portal.

This did not solve the inconsistency issue, plus it seems i've lost all FW information on this host.

We're running 8.00.00, but am planning to upgrade shortly.

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

This is getting ridiculous.

I updated OneView to 8.70 and applied the new Baseline 2023.09.00.03. First of all it takes hours to update the firmware including countless reboots. With a large amount of servers which obviously can't be updated all at the same time this could take weeks!

Anyway the update went through (with HP meanwhile I'm happy with little progress) except the HPE NS204i-r Boot Controller. So I reapplied the very same profile and it started to downgrade!? No sh!t, anything wet back to the previous state including the iLO-version.

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

Found this article: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00131906en_us&docLocale=en_US

Anyhow the suggested resolution is not working. I had to flash the firmware of the boot controller by hand. Seems to be the only way for now.

Pleas HP stop hasseling your customers and do your homework. An enterprise of your reputation should be ashamed of itself!

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

For us, 8.70 Oneview update did not fix this issue at all.

I'm hesistant to update firmware 2023.09.03 just to get the false alarm go away - who knows what else will break.

I'm planning on upgrading around 320 DL360 G10's and 160 ML30 G10's with Custom Baseline 2023 12 19, 2023.09.00.03 from next Monday, but all via a OneView 8.60.01 appliance - wish me luck!

Re: Getting sick of this now...: Power Management Controller Firmware

@ThoPe one quick thought when renewing the cert for OV4VC, the old OV4VC certificate needs to be removed from vCenter before adding the new certificate. My understanding is vCenter expects only one valid OV4VC certificate in their trust store.
