Hi
When zoning HPE Alletra MP host ports to the FC connected hosts I see there are both physical and NPIV device ports from the Alletra. So each physical host port as an associated NPIV port on the same physical port.
Is it best practice to zone the Alletra MP NPIV device ports to the connected FC hosts or the Alletra MP physical device ports?
many thanks

Hi,
"Host must have an initiator zoned with a target port on each node."

Thanks - I agree with that.
My question is based on which device port I need to add as the target device.
Whan I look at the Name Server on the HPE B series switch I can see a 'physcial' device port and an NPIV device port for the same Alletra MP host port. For example, I have connected E01 Node0 Slot 3 port 1 from the Alletra MP into my FC switch into port 0. When I look at the Name Server for the switch I can see two entries for FC switch port 0 one is a physcial device and the other is an NPIV device. Both devices are from 0:3:1 and have very similar WWNs but one is labelled 'physical' and the other 'NPIV' which WWN should I pick to add to the zone with my (single) host initiator?
Thanks

So I've found a bit more info on this but now need to ask for a little more clarification: -
in the "HPE GreenLake Block Storage: VMware ESXi Implementation Guide" at the top of page 133 there is the following statement "When creating the zone for NVMe/FC, include the NPIV Port WWN for the storage system target ports" Does this refer only to configurations of NVMe over Farbics (FC-NVMe) or is this telling me to use the NPIV port WWN for all FC connected ESXi hosts?
Reading it through I think this is specific to NVMe hosts over Fibre Channel so I'm leaning towards using the 'physical' device port WWN for standard FC ESXi hosts and NOT the NPIV WWN as this seems to only be referenced when disucssing NVME hosts, but it would be good to get agreement from others\HPE on this

SolutionHi CadenLange,
Please use the pWWN of the physical ports for zoning.
