Primera Disk Placement
I would like to ask about changing the physical disk placement on Primera. If we stop the equipment, change the physical disk placement, and then start the equipment again, will the data rebalancing be adjusted automatically? In my opinion, in order to physically change the disk layout, it is necessary to save the data in the disk one by one to a different location, then physically change the disk layout and rebalance the data, but in the state where the data is distributed to all disks as a chunklet Is it possible to explicitly take out the data one by one (save the data to another location)?Thank you for your help.

Re: Primera Disk Placement
Good day!
Changing the physical disk placement in a storage system like HPE Primera can be a complex and potentially complex operation. The behavior and capabilities of data rebalancing can vary depending on the specific storage system, its configuration, and the software or firmware version in use. Modern enterprise storage systems are designed to manage disk failures, data distribution, and rebalancing automatically to ensure data availability and performance.

Re: Primera Disk Placement
FYI, there are some important considerations:
>> In most cases, enterprise storage systems are designed to automatically redistribute data when disks are added or removed. This process ensures that data is evenly distributed across the available disks to maintain performance and data redundancy.
>> Enterprise storage systems often employ various RAID or erasure coding techniques to protect data against disk failures. These systems are capable of regenerating lost data from the remaining disks, and this process may be part of the automatic rebalancing.
>> Many storage systems have a maintenance or service mode that allows administrators to perform physical disk swaps or other hardware maintenance tasks. When a disk is replaced or moved, the storage system should handle the data redistribution without requiring manual intervention.
>> While automatic data rebalancing is a standard feature, it's essential to check the documentation for your specific Primera configuration and software version. In some cases, manual intervention might be necessary if there are issues during the process.
>> It's a good practice to have up-to-date backups of your data before making any significant changes to your storage system.
In summary, HPE Primera and similar enterprise storage systems are designed to handle disk placement changes and data rebalancing automatically. However, it's crucial to follow best practices, consult official documentation, and consider backup and migration options to mitigate potential complexity associated with hardware changes.
Sorry for writing much. I belive this gives some insights.
Good luck!
