How do you add a compute only node to Simplivity cluster?

Hi,  I beleve compute only nodes are supported on simplivity but i can't seem to find a document talking about adding them in.  Is there a support matrix?

Current stack..  4 node running vmware.  Omnistack software is 3.5.1 but planning on going to 3.7.9 soon..

Re: How do you add a compute only node to Simplivity cluster?

No, because the only requirement is that it be running the same version of VMware as the SimpliVity nodes. It doesn't matter what hardware it is.

You should connect them on 10 Gb, because the IP address of the OVC only fails over to another node on 10 Gb, not on 1 Gb.

You should change the NFS settings on the compute node as reccomended in the Admin guide (reboot required)

Also, it is reccomended to install the VAAI plug-in (SimpliVity version specific):

  1. Using a terminal emulator, log on to the standard host as root.
  2. Enter the following esxcli command:
    # esxcli software vib install --viburl=http://ip-address/vaai/simplivity-esx-n.x-nas-plugin-n.n.n.nnn.vib

    Where:
ip-address   is the IP address of the Virtual Controller where the VIB is located.
n.x is the ESXi version (5.x or 6.x).
n.n.n.nnn is the version string for the VAAI NAS plug-in.
i.e. esxcli software vib install --viburl=http://10.43.17.102/vaai/simplivity-esx-6.x-nas-plugin-3.8.0.5.vib
  3. Re-boot the ESXi host

@DougFiore

Check the Simplivity Administration Guide. It has useful information regarding this topic and others:

Hope it helps.

After we add a compute only node to the existing cluster will the backups be retained for the VM's that are migrated to the compute only node? Also can we create a new VM on a compute only node and set the backup policy?
