ICannot restore a deleted VM from backup simplivity

Hello,

I recently deleted a VM, I would like to restore it, it still exists in the backup simpli.
but when I run the command :
svt-backup-restore --datastore VMFS01 --vm "XXX" --backup 2021-08-18T22:00:00+02:00 --src-datacenter XXX --dst-datacenter XXX --src-cluster XXX --dst-cluster XXX --home VMFS02 --name "XXX"
I have this result :
ERROR [10]: Unknown VM or VM not found in datastore or VM not stored by SimpliVity. can you help me ?

regards,

Florian

Please esnure you are attempting to the same cluster where the backup was taken otherwise you might need to copy backup to the cluster where you intend to restore it to (the backup has to exist on the local cluster).  Additionally ensure that the VM name is the same as it was registered before deletion.  I hope this helps and if you are still having issues when you try to copy backup to the cluster where you want to restore it to and verified the name is correct you might want to open a support case.

Thank you!

Re: ICannot restore a deleted VM from backup simplivity

Thanks for your help, i am executing the command from the site where the backup is stored. When I run the "svt-backup-show" command, this is what I get:

"| DatastoreXX | SRV-XXX [DELETED 2021-09-22T18:35:03+0000] | 2021-08-19T22:00:00-04:00 | Policy | VMware Snapshot | 2021-Aug-20 02:00:00 | N/A | datacenterXX | clusterXX | Protected | 324.51GB | 61.22MB | 2021-Aug-20 02:01:18 | vSphere"

We can see that the backup is present, as well as the VM is deleted.

So I don't understand why my restore order fails..

Florian

@FloM

As mentioned on previous response, first make sure that the backup actually lives in that datastore. Try running the svt-backup-show command like this: svt-backup-show --vm 'SRV-XXX [DELETED 2021-09-22T18:35:03+0000]' --datastore 'VMFS01'

If you get "No backups" then your backup doesn't live in that particular datastore and restore will fail.

Re: ICannot restore a deleted VM from backup simplivity

Hello,

I have a case where the same thing happens to me. I have an environment of two federated nodes and another in another site as DR. I have copies of the machines on that node and when executing the command I get the same error:

svt-backup-restore --datastore xxxx--vm "XXX" --backup xxxxxxx--src-datacenter XXX --dst-datacenter XXX --src-cluster XXX --dst-cluster XXX --home VMFS02 --name "XXX"I have this result :

ERROR [10]: Unknown VM or VM not found in datastore or VM not stored by SimpliVity.
