Adding additional Frame to an existing LIG, and how frames can be in LIG

We have two sets of two Synergy Frames each in their own LIG.  For each pair configuration, each frame has a 50Gb satellite in interconnect bay 3 of one frame and bay 6 of the other frame, and then a F32 VC SE 100Gb in interconnect bay 6 and 3 of teh two frames.  We then have Q1-Q4 as uplinks to our ACI leafs, and Q5-Q6 connected to MDS storage switches, and finally Q7-Q8 stacking between the two F32's.

We started with this two frame setup initially, and then stood up two more in this exact same setup, but have found that since there is no ICM between the pair that we are unable to them all in the same LIG which in reault means they have seperate LIG ID's, and forcing us to do two seperate VPC's, which is not what we want to do.  Can we re-do the ICM connections between these so that all four frames are part of one LIG and one VPC?

Should we re-cable to match this: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00045102en_us&page=GUID-27EC2DA5-4756-45A3-8ABD-785867615C9A.html, using the two additional F32 in place of the 50Gb satellite interconnects depicted in the diagrams?

We also have another pair of Synergy's which we purchased and haven't spun up yet in this exact configuration (2 x 50Gb and 2 x F32), is there a way to loop these two more into the same LIG whenever we bring them online?  Whats the maximum of frames that can be in the same LIG?  Can we have eight frames each populated with a F32 and a 50Gb all in the same LIG?

Re: Adding additional Frame to an existing LIG, and how frames can be in LIG

Hello,

First question . Can we re-do the ICM connections between these so that all four frames are part of one LIG and one VPC?

No you cannot each one of your two frame setups was purchased as a separate "logical enclosure." To create one logical enclosure from four (4) frames you will need six satellite modules and two master modules.

Second question - Can you use the F32 ICMs instead of the 50GB satellite ICMs? No you cannot.

Third question  - Can you add four additional frames to the same LIG? No, you can only have up to five (5)  frames in a logical enclosure.

Please read this whitepaper about best practices for growing a configuration.

I hope this helps.

Re: Adding additional Frame to an existing LIG, and how frames can be in LIG

If I understood correctly , you have two logical interconnects(LI)  with two frames each. Each LI has a pair of 100Gb VC modules (ICM) and 50Gb satellite modules(ILM). You want to club them together as a single LI.
To add further, you wish to add two more frames to this LI, making it to a total of 6 frames in it.

With two ICMs and ILMs in a 2 frame LI, I assume you 50Gb downlink connections ( using 6820c CNA installed in computes).

Let me tell you that , maximum frames in a single LI with 50Gb downlink connections are 3. Here you will have ICM in bay 3 of frame 1 & bay 6 of frame 2. And, ILM in bay 6 of frame 1 , bay 3 of frame 2 and in bay 3&6 of frame 3.
If 25Gb downlink port is enough, then you can have 5 frames per LI. In this setup, you will have ICM in bay 3 of frame 1 & bay 6 of frame 2. And, ILM in bay 6 of frame 1 , bay 3 of frame 2 and in bay 3&6 of frame 3,4&5.

Now, answer to your queries.

>>  Can we re-do the ICM connections between these so that all four frames are part of one LIG and one VPC?

Yes, you can do, but you can not use 4 ICMs in that LI. You can use only two ICMs and 6 ILMs. You will have ICM in bay 3 of frame 1 & bay 6 of frame 2. And, ILM in bay 6 of frame 1 , bay 3 of frame 2 and in bay 3&6 of frame 3,4.
So, you will need to give away two ICMs and get additional two ILMs. Plus, the downlink connections will be at 25GB only.

>> Can you use the F32 ICMs instead of the 50GB satellite ICMs?

No, you cannot.

>>  Can you add four additional frames to the same LIG?

No. You can have a maximum of 5 frames in a LI.
