In HPUX-11iv2 Integrity servers we create the EFI partition of 100MB and in hpux 11iv3 the size mentioned in the installation note is 500MB.
Can anyone please explain me, how do we decide the size of the EFI partition?
If i am going to have only hpux on my server, Then how much size i should give to this EFI partition?
What all are the contents would be there in the EFI partition?
Thanx and Rgds

Re: The size of the EFI Partition
Who decides? HP.
This is not an area to conserve disk space. If the doc says it needs 500 MB you are advised to comply.
EFI includes information needed to boot the system.

Re: The size of the EFI Partition
I understood that.
But what is the reason behind that?
And what all the contents would be there in the EFI area? Is that content utilies the full 500MB space?
Thanks and Regards

SolutionIf You are going to install only hpux on your server, 100MB EFI Partition is sufficient.
EFI Partition contains EFI image, HP-UX bootloader is one example of an EFI image.
EFI system firmware searches EFI images, to load from \EFI directory of the EFI system partition. You can list the contents of EFI partition from EFI Boot menu.
Thanks

Re: The size of the EFI Partition
Thanks for ur response
I listed the EFI area
fs0:\EFI\HPUX> ls
Directory of: fs0:\EFI\HPUX 06/03/04 03:31p
If u see the entire size , it is not even 1MB.
Shall we able to load any other utilities in this area?
Any way we are going to load our ODE also in the HPSP area only.
Thanx & Rgds

Re: The size of the EFI Partition
In addition, driver updates use the EFI partition.
As the size of these files increase, it is necessary to have more space available for installation.

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-90950/ch06s02.html#cchgjafa
11.23 (11iv2) upped the size of the EFI partition to 500MB. It was 100MB prior to 11.23.
As of UX 11.23 there is a HP Service Partition c0t0d0s3 (FAT-32) right behind the HP-UX partition. The service partition is created by Diagnostics installation. It├в s default size is 400MB. It can be accesses by the commands efi_ls(1M), efi_cp(1M) etc. After cold install it is empty and must be populated from the Support CD. You can run eDIAG from the HPSP.
