Added disks problem

Hello

Some time ago I faced the problem of full storage space. The San Storage had 2.14 TB disks and RAID 5. The device is of type MSA 1050. I added 5 new disks to it and created a new disk group in the pool A where the previous disks were and added the disks to it with RAID 5. The disks were added successfully and there are no problems. In the next step in the volumes section I increased the sizes of the current volumes.there are 3 Volumes. Then I went to vCenter. In the storage section I should have done a RESCAN but there is no rescan. Explanation is that I have two ESXi6.5 hosts. Now I can't see the increased capacity in vCenter.

Re: Added disks problem

Hi,

Execute the below commands from ESXI SSH console :

esxcli storage core adapter rescan

esxcli storage core device list

This will list all the MSA volumes as well as other storage devices mapped to the server.

Execute the below command from SSH session to MSA management port IP:

show volumes details

This will list the 600c series naa id of the MSA volumes.

Verify whether the size of MSA volume in SMU/SSH CLI  matches the size in the esxcli storage core device list command output.
There would be some difference due to Tb to Tib or Gb to Gib conversion.

If this matches it indicates that volume expansion was successful and its visible in ESXI.
The next step would be to try to expand a data store and check whether this additional space is visible.
Generally the issue that I have noticed is the expanded size will be listed under ESXI devices but it might not be available to expand data store.
If this additional space is not visible it could be an issue at ESXI end ex: file system level issues and you would need to work with vmware support to check for options to fix the issue.

Please note that I have very limited expertise in vmware, you may wait for other vmware experts to respond.
