Hi all, can anyone tell me the correct order in which to add a new host to a cluster and map the initiators to a msa 2050?
i have read conflicting advice that i should add the host to esxi cluster and map the iniators from within vsphere and then others say ensure that the initators are mapped to the storage with the correct lun numbers first, my head hurts..
please help
as always thanks in advance.

SolutionDoes not matter, ESX does care for it.
Usually, I first map the Volume to the new ESX, check if it sees all Volumes with the correct (same) LUN ID are here, and then add the Host to the Cluster.

Re: Adding host to esxi cluster storage mappings msa 2050 correct order
Hi @Uraken007 ,
There is no order mapping the storage to ESXi.
Every host should be configured with MSA target to see the NAA ID's of the presented LUN's
Post that you can add all the host to cluster and perform cluster level storage scan to create datastore .
This helps mapping the datastore to all the host part of the cluster.
Note : Without configuring the target (MSA) this will not work.
Eg: If its oftware ISCSI Initiator you need to manually add the storage IP in discovery option to see the path and the LUN's

Re: Adding host to esxi cluster storage mappings msa 2050 correct order
As he wrote "Adding host to esxi cluster..", my understanding is, that there is already a Cluster with existing Hosts and Datastores and he wants only to add a new Host to the Cluster.

Re: Adding host to esxi cluster storage mappings msa 2050 correct order
On the host the target info has to be added to discover the presented are mapped LUN's
If you re-scan the adapter are after adding the host to cluster you may re-can the storage o`n cluster level the LUN get detected which can be used to create the VMFS datastore for cluster.
