LH3 BIOS and Netraid firmware upgrades (basic question)
I'm trying to install W2K Server on an LH3 and ran into this error:
DISK READ ERROR CTRL+ALT+DEL TO REBOOT
discussed here:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=216645
I didn't check the BIOS version yet, but I'm assuming the BIOS needs to be upgrade and the Netraid firmware I think is old as well (PC is at work....I'm home now so I can't confirm)
I've created the BIOS and firmware upgrade disks, but I'm not sure the procedure for upgrading them and can't find instructions anywhere. I'm thinking its one of 2 things
1) The floppies are bootable, so I'd just boot to the floppy and follow the onscreen instructions for upgrading (That's how all the Dell's I've ever down BIOS upgrades have been, but have little experience with HP's)
or
2) use a DOS boot disk, swap in the BIOS and Firmware upgrade and run an executable from the floppies.
If anyone can confirm the procedure, I would greatly appreciated it!

Re: LH3 BIOS and Netraid firmware upgrades (basic question)
Hi Bruce,
To flash the BIOS just Boot from the floppy diskett you have created from the download and follow the on screen instructiion and wait until to reboot by itself or aske you to restart it
Note:
Before you flash the BIOS,
If you have a Custom BIOS setting take a note of that custome setting.
After you the BIOS flashed on the next reboot hit F2 to get in to the BIOS, then make sure your BIOS setting is as it was before (if u hade Custom setting) if u did not have custome setting Press F9 to save the default and Press F10 to save and exit
The latest BIOS is 4.06.43PL and
the latest FW for the onboard raid controller is D.03.03 (the raid firmware is shown as D.03.02 in the link you posted so make sure you got the latest one D.03.03)
Good Luck

Re: LH3 BIOS and Netraid firmware upgrades (basic question)
Hello Bruce,
A Disk Read Error does not necessarily mean the hard drives, it could also be the CD-ROM is not reading the CD correctly. If you are using a copy of your W2k CD, then it might be trying to read an address from a spot on the copy that isn't exactly the same as on the original.
Another factor can be the BIOS is a little corrupted and cannot read the CD-ROM correctly. To fix any corruption issue, you can clear CMOS. To clear the CMOS configuration:
a. Turn the server off and unplug it. Take the case off.
b. Locate the set of system switches on the motherboard.
c. Move Switch #5 CLEAR CONFIG or CLEAR CMOS to the opposite position, that is, from OFF to ON.
d. Power up the server. You will see a configuration error. The server will stop at this error.
e. Turn the server off, unplug it. Move Switch #5 back to the original position.
f. Power up the server. The BIOS program must be run to reconfigure the server. That usually means pressing F2, entering the BIOS setup and pressing F10 to save and exit. If you have made any changes to the default settings, you will have to put them back in.
Clearing CMOS is also a good idea after you update the BIOS.
