Adding SDLT drive problem

I have a Compaq SDLT320 tape drive connected to an HP RX4640 server. This is connected to the first SCSI connector on the HP tape array. The OS sees the device fine. The problem I have is with the device file name. I would expect something like /dev/rmt/1m (the Ultrium drive already in the tape array is /dev/rmt/0m). Instead though, I am seeing /dev/rmt/c4t6d0BEST & am unable to communicate to the device. Any ideas why the name is like this?

My HPUX skills are a bit sketchy still so any help much appreciated!

Re: Adding SDLT drive problem

Do the following: -

Run "insf" to add soft files for any new devices.

Then run "ioscan -fnCtape"

This will show all tape drives and their associated device files.

If this doesn't work it's possible someone may have deleted them, in which case force the files to be recreated with "insf -e", then run the ioscan again.

Re: Adding SDLT drive problem

Looks like your hardware is installed into the system.. in any case.. to double check ..do the ioscan first

ioscan

without any parameters so it scans all hardware

then do an insf to install all drivers...

insf -e

if it does not work

double check your connections and last resort ... reboot..

dont forget to check your SCSI ids...

Torex,

Have you tried out already the answers in your similar question:

You have an old device file that wasn't removed prior to the installation of the new drive with the same instance number.

Re: Adding SDLT drive problem

Thanks everyone. Has the correct raw device file name now. I still have an issue with the device but have posted that on the other question on this subject (see link mentioned by Kurt).

Cheers.
