Any know problems with A5230A/B5509BA?

I've replaced this NIC 3 times. I get excessive Inbound Errors, Alignment Errors and FCS Errors. N4000, HPUX 11.00, PHNE_25580 attached to a Cisco Catalyst 3500 XL 100Mbit switch. I have 4 other N4000's setup the same way but no problems. This N4000 has two other NICs running J4240AA B.11.00.16 APA Software. I've switched cards, slots, ports & cables. Any ideas?

Steve,

Ensure that the port speed settings on the NIC and the switch are consistent. General advice is either to fix them (eg 100FD) OR to have both ends auto-negotiate. Both ends need to be set in the same way.

Note also that patch PHNE_25580 had some special instructions:
--------------------
A new version of file /etc/rc.config.d/hppci100conf
was delivered as a part of this patch, which is
/usr/newconfig/etc/rc.config.d/hppci100conf. If you
edit /etc/rc.config.d/hppci100conf you may want to
merge the files.
To set speed and duplex via SAM, users need to install SAM
patch: PHCO_17792
ifconfig down/up is needed while changing MTU using
lanamdin -[M|R] options.
------------------------

Are you using the new hppci100conf file....?

100 BaseT and slower NIC cards must have manual configuration on the switch set for the correct speed.

Also /etc/rc.config.d/hpbtlanconf should manually set speed as well.

Beyond that, I would begin to suspect the system board of the N4000 or if the card is compatible witht he slot its in.

Not every slot in these beasts can run every kind of interface card.
