Array State= No Map 12H

#model
9000/803/D220
HP UX 11.00
March 2003 patches

#arraydsp -a $SN | more

....

array state = No Map
....
Total Physical=52099MBs

....
Unallocated(avail for LUNs)=0MBs

Since the Array State=No Map, I cannot create any LUNs.

Can anyone help?

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

What do you get when you run this ?
# arraylog -e
That should show something like this ..
Primary Controller = X
Controller X Vendor ID = HP
Controller X Product ID = C5447A
Controller X Firmware = 1D02170114
.... and so on.
Have you try to reset ARMServer daemon.
# /sbin/init.d/hparray stop
# /sbin/init.d/hparray start

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

I also ge this at the Console:

"No address table exists for disk array on /dev/rdsk/c1t4d0 at dclass"

The disk in the array we used in another array!

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

It looks like controller X is having some kind of problem. At a glance (from the errorlog) ..
....
Event Count = 1
Component Specific ID = 7
FRU to replace = 129
...
it's saying a "field replacement unit" need to be replaced. I don;t know what's 129 is but I'm guessing it's controller X. Before you jump into any conclusion, I would try a few things first ..
1- Reset ARMServer
2- Physically examine controller X, it should have a constant green LED if in working order.
3- Hardreset your 12H (only if you have the downtime window)
If all the above does not help I'll more like to draw a conclusion that controller X needs to be replaced.

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

Hang on .. if you plug in a previously used disk module onto another 12H you HAVE to manually (from the 12H control panel) perform an "Include Disk" operation on that disk because the "Auto Include" feature would NOT work unless it's a brand new disk. To do this, fron the 12H front panel ..

Press Menu, then "+" until you see "Disk Changes" and then press Enter. Somewhere in there there should be an option that says "Include Disk", choose that one to perform the include operation of this disk into the array.

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

sorted the controller X and Y out
that was me messing around

also i tried the Include disk
and I confirmed that but it said No Disks Included
(on the front panel)???

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

What 12h displays on its LCD? Warning or ready?
Do you have LUN 0 created on the 12h?
Software can tell you incorrect things because of many reasons, but 12h's front panel - never. If it says 'ready' then it's really ok and there're problems with software. Controller X in unknown state can be because it is simply no connected to this host

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

The X and Y are ok
# arraylog -e $SN

Primary Controller = X

Controller X Vendor ID = HP
Controller X Product ID = C5447A
Controller X Firmware = 4405130317
Controller X Serial Number = R85IADF982911111
Controller Y Vendor ID = HP
Controller Y Product ID = C5447A
Controller Y Firmware = 4405130317
Controller Y Serial Number = R85FADF980031111
No Events in Log

LUN 0 is not created as per(ARRAY STATE= NO MAP):
# arraydsp -a $SN|more

Vendor ID = HP
Product ID = C5447A
Array serial number = 000000105823
----------------------------------------------------
Array State = NO MAP
Server name = dclass
Array type = 3
Mfg. Product Code = IJMTU00002

--- Disk space usage --------------------
Total physical = 52099 MB *
Allocated to LUNs = 0 MB *
Used as Active Hot spare = 0 MB *
Used by non-included disks = 52099 MB *
Used for Redundancy = 0 MB *
Unallocated (avail for LUNs) = 0 MB *

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

FRONT PANEL of 12H
"No tables"
It does not say ready or I would have noticed

where are these docs anyway??

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/manindex/hpsurestor19162_eng_man.html

they are listed but not available!

I think this problem is to do with the fact that these disks were taken from another 12H Array, since:
# arraydsp -d $SN|more

Information for disk in slot A1:
Disk State = PREVIOUSLY USEDInformation for disk in slot A2:
Disk State = PREVIOUSLY USED
etc etc.. for 4 more disks

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

I know it's late..........

The Problem:

No Address Table
I think this means data maps are lost. (data on the disks is not needed).

I've tried formatting the array, but still:

No Address Table

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

It looks like all of your disks are from another array since ..
Allocated to LUNs = 0 MB
and
Unallocated (avail for LUNs) = 0 MB
Ok, this is what you should do, first unplugged all the disk modules out from the slots. Now plug in just one disk to slot A1. Follow the procedure I gave ..
Menu->DiskChanges->IncludeDisk and I think it'll either detect that you got a disk inserted into A1 or it'll prompt for you to choose the slot number. After you've included the disk in, run arraydsp again and see if the status change. It may take a while for the array to process and update its information, so be patient. If this goes well, do the same for the rest of the disks.

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

Hello,

You were messing around... so the AutoRAID is now messing around with you.

Most probably, you removed a number of disks and put in some disks from another AutoRAID. Or else, you replaced a controller from another AutoRAID. In order to solve this, you need to either return the disks you replaced, or return the controller you replaced.

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

format the array from the control panel.
This will fix the problem.

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

I tried include disk in SAM ( also I get this on the command line) but got this error:

I did not remove the controller only the disks!

I will see if I can format the array from the Front Panel
Cnrl Changes> Format Array>Clear Data>Confirm

Tried formatting with arrayfmt but that did not work..

Thanks guys

Thnaks to all.

Formatting the array from the front panel caused Array to be Online.

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

just to add, when formatting the array, if auto include is off, the array will not include any disks to the array after format and the panel will say NOT ENOUGH DISKS! You need to include the disks one by one or turn auto include on.

(These tow problems used to be one of my troubleshooting exercises when I taught Autoraid to support guys.)
It works for me (tm)

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

SM,
in one of your replies you stated 'tried formatting the array but received "no maps"'. Next time please be more specific how did you do such things.
I thought you were using control panel (in most cases it should be used) because ARMServer clearly was telling incorrect information and thus should not be used for managing 12h

Re: Array State= No Map 12H

Yes

you are right I should have been more specific as to how I formatted the array in the fist instance!

Sorry!

Eugeny, Per:
To help you I need:
arraydsp -a
logprint
complete outputs zipped and attached to your next reply
Thanks for the OFFER!

Bill Auto Include was already on, this was done via SAM.
