I have a problem with my workstation, I'm running HP10.20.
First I open a non HP application, then
I open the calculator or the icon editor, when I lock the screen, the login window and the screen saver start to work in black and white, If I close the calculator or the icon editor application start to work normally.
I tried a solution implemented in this forum for a similar problem "Strange Font Color Problem" but, In my computer doesn't exist the /etc/dt/app-defaults/C directory.
I have a log generated during the problem.
I'll appreciate you help.
Regards
Jose

Solution
This sounds as if a lack of colours is causing this. My guess is your application is eating them !
CDE requires a few colours for the desktop say 40, that leaves 216 for everything else, some applications eg Netscape will grab everything thats left and not release them, consequently if you start another application and there are not enough colours left it defaults to black & white.
There's not much you can do about it, if its netscape run it with a -install option (forces it to use its own colormap), otherwise try from CDE's stylemanager Colors -> more colours for desktop may help ?
or start your application last ie login to CDE start CDE apps , start Screensaver then non HP application.
or speak to the vendor they may be aware of the problem and have a similar option to netscapes.
ps what H/W are you running this on ? graphics card ?
Good luck.
