Do it the other way!
in your hp box make changes in your .rhosts file in the home directory of the user as
servername loginname
Now try accessing from the linux machine as
#remsh

/etc/pam.d/rlogin
by default it secures rlogin and forces password requirements, which breaks rlogin
change the first occurence or "required" to "optional" and this should open up rlogin features.

use "rlogin" to login (with answering the password question), and look for the output of "who am I -u", the rightmost column: use the name shown there in your "$HOME/.rhosts"...
