can't see SCSI device on N4000

Hello forum,

I've got an N4000 with a SCSI attached external DVD and DAT drives and I've suddenly lost my connection to those devices. Even an ioscan -kfn isn't providing me with the hardware path for the devices.

I know that I'm probably missing something obvious, but any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: can't see SCSI device on N4000

Hi,

Things to check in order:

1) Devices powered up?
2) Cable connections intact? Reseat them.
3) Termination in place? Reseat it as well.

If after all that & the devices are still not there, then check the HW state of the SCSI HBA itself. Run up the stm diags & test it out. Could have gone bad.

Rgds,
Jeff

Hi,

I thing you have done a reboot after losing your device, this is why you don't see them with ioscan. Your device must be poweroff or disconnected, this sometimes appends in datacenter :-( .

Re: can't see SCSI device on N4000

Houston,

Try ioscan -fn (skip the "k", so it actually scans the hardware busses) and see if that makes a difference.

If you still don't see the devices and they're powered-up and connected as Jeff mentioned, check the terminator to be sure it's the right type. (Maybe somebody switched the terminator and you have a differential terminator on a single-ended bus?)

Let us know what you find. Even if it was "something stupid", we've all done it (at least as far as you know)! ;-)

Re: can't see SCSI device on N4000

Also, in the case that they both have disappeared while the system is running, all of a sudden, with no reboot taking place to cause this mishap, I would suspect about the health of the SCSI interface hardware.
Just a thought...

Re: can't see SCSI device on N4000

Hi,

If you know the hardware path of the controller to which these devices were connected, try.

ioscan -fnH hardware_path

Hope this helps.

I would also suggest to check any change in SCSI add happened and probably they are clashing with something else.

Re: can't see SCSI device on N4000

Power on the device, check all cables than do
#ioscan -fn
#insf -e
