Cannot boot HP-UX 11i system after kernel recompilation

Greetings,

I have changed the smmax parameter of the kernel.
Now when I boot, I get:

panic: kalloc: out of kernel virtual space.

Now I’m trying to run a recovery shell from the install CD.
Is there some documentation about the steps I’ll have to run to restore the previous kenel?

Any help/suggestion is highly appreciated.

TIA.

Kind Regards,

Rui V

Re: Cannot boot HP-UX 11i system after kernel recompilation

Hi,

Your OLD kernel is by itself preserved while compiling new kernel. Try to boot it from the same. Once done after backing up that change parameter to a suitable value.

While botting press any key within 10 secs when message appears. On PDC type "bo pri" Select Y when prompted for interacting with IPL. On IPL Menu give "hpux ls -l". It will list all files in /stand. Try botting with something like vmunix.prev or whatever listed in above output.

Hi Rui

Interrupt the boot process to go to IPL and then try to boot from /stand/vmunix.prev or /stand/vmunix.bak if created before.
