Clustering Rational ClearCase Software

Another application my company wants to run in a high-avialabilty ServiceGuard cluster is ClearCase by Rational Software. Rational states that their engineers haven't tested it in their labs and have no documentation to cluster it.

Has anyone purchaced this product and have it in a production MC/Serviceguard cluster configuration and can assist by providing us some documentation on how this is done?

Thank you very much :)

Re: Clustering Rational ClearCase Software

Contrary to what Raytional are saying, this has been tested by HP/Rational:

Testing of ClearCase Software with MC/ServiceGuard has been completed. In a joint testing effort between
Rational Software and Hewlett Packard, two configurations were tested and shown to work in an
MC/ServiceGuard cluster.

Configurations Tested:

Mutual failover of two view servers and the failover of a single VOB server to a stand-by system.
The VOB server also acted as the registry server, and the license server.
Mutual failover of two view servers and the failover of two VOB servers (with limitations).

Re: Clustering Rational ClearCase Software

Yes, i know somebody who has 'almost' setup clearcase on a cluster environment. Seems that they ran into lot of issues in testing , failover, setting up view/vob/registry servers. But, mostof it has been ironed out. The testing is still on. Two nodes are primary VOB andView servers, with each acting as a failoverof one another. In addition there is a separateregistry server.

Reportedly, there is also a whitepaper jointly
produced by HP and Rational on setting up
clearcase on clusters, which lists all the
problems one can face in setting it up and
the solutions to them.

It's not the most elegant thing to do, but
since it means saving of $$$ in terms on
not purchasing multisite license, it may
become more common.

Expect a long testing period, if you plan
to implement it ;-) Whitepaper or not it
is not going to be a breeze.
