Creating Volume Group failure

Using a B1000 workstation running hp-ux 10.20 connected to a HAAS storage unit. Trying to create a new volume group. ioscan shows disk is available and unclaimed. Loaded all proper patches. Recieving error - vgcreate: Volume group "/dev/vg01" could not be created: The physical volume has no driver configured. I noticed three drivers on my server that aren't on the workstation. scsi1, scsi2 and scsi3. I'm not sure if this is what I'm missing or something else. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Creating Volume Group failure

Install the drivers from the kernel configuration menu in SAM, go to drivers and enable the scsi's and other drivers for your hard disks.

Re: Creating Volume Group failure

Added all drivers that seem to be associated
with scsi, however I am still recieving the same error message. There still seems to be
to be scsi1, scsi2, scsi3 drivers that are not available in the current kernel configuration. Should they and can they be added. I have also located some patches that
refer to scsi1 scsi2 and scsi3 - Should they
be loaded? Thanks

Re: Creating Volume Group failure

Do you have any other external disks attached to this system?

Are you attach to the HAAS via a single controller? If so, do you have the jumper from one side of the HAAS to the other and is it then terminated appropriately?

I don't think you need the scsi1,2,3 drivers for your disks. The sdisk or disk3 driver should do it I think.

What does ioscan show for the controller that the disks are attached to? Does it show CLAIMED or UNCLAIMED?

Re: Creating Volume Group failure

Checked - terminations are correct. Controller card is claimed. Spoke with another Admin. He said he thinks the disc3 driver may be needed. Sdisk is already IN. However disc3
is not an option. Does anyone know how to load the disc3 driver and where I can get it from?

Re: Creating Volume Group failure

I am surprised that disc3 is not an option when you go into SAM.

What driver are your other disks using?

If you go into SAM->Kernel Configuration->Drivers, what disc drivers do you see in the list? What are their states? I currently have disc1,2,3,4 listed, but only disc 3 is 'In' the kernel. The other disc driver that you should have in the kernel is sdisk.

Re: Creating Volume Group failure

Can you please check if you have the latest scsi patches installed.
There is a very critical and important patch + dependencies.

hp-ux 10.20 S800 PHKL_16751

The drivers you need are sdisk or disc3, also make sure you have the latest SAM/OBAM patch installed.
