cron process hang problem
My HP server is rp5470 with DS2405 and SW version is HP-UX 11.11.
I met one problem with cronjob nonworking. After I restart cron process, cronjob works as normal before. Does HP-UX 11.11 in rp5470 have cron process hang problem? Please advice. thanks a lot your help.

Re: cron process hang problem
If your patches are up-to-date, it is much unlikely that the cron is a problem.
Did the cron process start? Check your /etc/rc.log
e.g.
..
Start clock daemon
Output from "/sbin/rc2.d/S730cron start":
----------------------------
cron started
..
revert!
kind regards

How many time have you faced the trouble with cron jobs?? is it too frequent or this was the first time.
If this was the first time that I would suggest you to monitor the system for a while and take some commands o/p before restarting the cron if you face the same issue again.

Re: cron process hang problem
I agree with Mridul, if the problem is one-off then it is not worth updating the system with a new patch.
You will have to monitor your system a bit more. If the problem recurs soon, then you will have to look into the possibility of installing the latest patch bundles for the system...
good luck!

If you have HP Support then taking lsof and tusc command o/p may help HPRC to find the root cause of the cron hanging. Please note that these are the utilities which u have to install on the system and doesn't come by default.
However I will again say if this is one time problem then nothing to worry and don't take any decision in hurry. Since you have to consider lots of thing if you are going for patch upgrade. If it is a production box then u may have to check with application and DBA team before going for any changes.

Re: cron process hang problem
They are patch bundles and it is preferrable to install all the patches found in these bundles (as far as they are applicable).
The latest bundles can be downloaded from:

Re: cron process hang problem
>This is my first time to happen cron process hang. Which commands do I need for monitoring?
ps -ef|grep cron
you can run it twice or 3 times a day or alternatively create a scheduled job using cron that will run and alert you accordingly.
