dbc_OpenChannel failed

Hi,

I have a HP-UX B2000 workstation running HP-UX 11.00.

Recently, I keep getting this "dbc_OpenChannel failed" message on my console. When this happened, people can still ping to my workstation but no one will be able to telnet to it. My workstation has unlimited Unix user license.

I have tried to search for hints from the internet and HP-support web site but don't have any luck. Would appreciate if anyone can help on this. My email is wli@cincom.com.

Many thanks,
William

The message is unrecorded

Re: dbc_OpenChannel failed

Just a shot in the dark.

Seems something related to inet.

Do you get any mesages in syslog? Can you login through console after this message?

What is being run on this box?

Re: dbc_OpenChannel failed

Hi,

Thanks for the replies so far.

I have checked the syslog.log but there is nothing related to this dbc_OpenChannel error. Is there any special messages I should look it?

On my workstation, I have Oracle 8.1.7 installed as a database server.

Thanks and regards,
William

Re: dbc_OpenChannel failed

Are there any other applications running on this machine? This doesn't appear to me to be an OS error. If it were, you would almost surely see something abnormal in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log.

It is strange that you can telnet when this error occurrs.

Any other symptoms? Can you use rlogin or remsh to login? What about a console login? Any other network protocols effected like NFS, FTP?

Re: dbc_OpenChannel failed

I have seen this message coming from CODA server processes before. It occurs when the CODA server has not been configured correctly from an Oracle standpoint. When a client tries to attach to the CODA server, the Oracle connection fails and generates this message. If the CODA server was started as part of the boot process then the message would appear on the console. Do you have CODA or some other package that uses Oracle and runs in a similar manner? If so, check its configuration.

Re: dbc_OpenChannel failed

Hi,

Thanks for all the responses.

I have figured out where this dbc_OpenCannel error comes out. It is from a 3rd party application using Oracle. There seems to be an error during the application setup by someone. After I reinstall the application, this dbc_OpenChannel error is gone.

Once again, thanks for the help.

Best regards,
William
