Errors backing up to LTO
I've just setup a 11i system (RP5430). I've installed all the software I need, and am trying to take a "baseline" backup of the system. It's connected (via SCSI) to a HP Ultrium drive, and that drive is showing up in SAM.
I'm using the backup manager in SAM to select all local file systems.
I've checked the SCSI cable is connected to the appropriate drive, and is properly terminated.
The drive shows up in ioscan -C tape
All I get is an IO error. How can I diagnose this problem?
Here is the output of fbackup
Starting interactive backup...
br_backup: Invoking fbackup. See /var/sam/log/br_log for details.
fbackup(1421): no history is available for graph file /var/sam/graphJCAa03734 (b

fbackup(1004): session begins on Tue Sep 24 11:58:35 2002
fbackup(3040): output file /dev/rmt/c0t4d0BEST encountered an I/O error
fbackup(3019): would you like to enter a new output file?
n

fbackup(3004): writer aborting

Re: Errors backing up to LTO
mt -t /dev/rmt/0m status
What does it say...can you use another backup tool to check if the drive works properly ???
Try tar or dd...

Re: Errors backing up to LTO
ioscan -fnC tape
to check if you have device files. If not do:
insf -e
If you have devicefiles they may be corupted, I would remove them:
rmsf -H 0/0/10/0/0.3.0
then do an ioscan to check the status and then :
insf -e
ioscan to check the status, then trye to do the backup again.
Another thing check that the tape is not write protected.

Re: Errors backing up to LTO
Daniel - I cleaned the drive, but same error occurred.
No status light flashing - could this be hardware error? STM says file checks out good.
orange - i'll try that.
STM output
