Extending a Striped volume

hello
using veritas vol manager 3.5 on hpux 11: i have a volume (layout=stripe) striped on 3 disks (every disk is 100gb) on a dg composed by 3 disks. Now i need to extend this volume but i can add only a disk to this dg. I'd like to relayout this volume and make it nostripe. The only disk i can add is 15g in size.
Can i extend that volume? (i need to growby it of 10g) thank you! :-)

Re: Extending a Striped volume

Hi,

Backup the filesystem, remove the volume, recreate the volume without striping, create a filesystem and restore the data.

Re: Extending a Striped volume

Hi Mmartini,
Unfortunately no. Create a new filesystem and move data. You cannot extend a filesystem striped accross three disks with one additional disk. You need 3 disks.

Re: Extending a Striped volume

hi

yes i know i can't extend a striped volume on 1 disk that's why i wanted to relayout the volume... but how many free space is needed to do this? I just have the 15g disk available in that dg. Not possible?

Re: Extending a Striped volume

Ummmm, guys, while my strong dislike of veritas has forbit any long-term-experience I kind of feel that veritas IS able to extend a striped volume, quite different than with standard LVM.
