Fast Ether Channel & HP-UX

Hi,
I'm running omniback II in a L2000 w/HP-UX 11.0
I've got 2 100baseT Lan cards. I'm using one of them to backup servers over the network. I was thinking if it is possible to configure both lan cards as a unique Fast Ether Channel (FEC), having a single IP address and increasing the backup throughput to 200mbps.
Does anybody know if HP-UX can cope with this?
Thanx & regards,
Juan Carlos.

Re: Fast Ether Channel & HP-UX

You could do this using the Auto Port Aggregation software. Check out the manual:

Re: Fast Ether Channel & HP-UX

You should then look at APA (AutoPortAggregation). Below is the document for your reference.

Also, check the following Release Notes for the support Information (Very Important as APA is not supported on every Hardware)

HP supports it, and with at least Cisco switches that support it.

BTW: You will never reach 200mbs, maybe close to 170mps.

Re: Fast Ether Channel & HP-UX

Hi:

I am already doing this with my OmniBack using APA software. This helps the most on the host(s) with the media agent(s) to keep high-speedtape devices like DLT's streamimg.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Fast Ether Channel & HP-UX

Is APA for free?
Where can I get it?

You have it, but please make sure you have installed all of the latest patches. As someone noted, please read this document:

Re: Fast Ether Channel & HP-UX

APA is good stuff - to realize that 200 Mbit/s though you will have to have more than one TCP connection going at the same time, and you will have to select the packet scheduling algorithm accordingly. The docs already mentioned should point that out.
