Re: Fbackup related

Assuming your are using the correct tape, you should at least get 40GB native capacity. It's conceivable that the drive detects a write error and simply reports that as EOT so trying a new medium would be a good idea. My other thought is that you are using the -s option so that symbolic links are being followed. In that case, bdf could report a small value but the backup could be much bigger.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Fbackup related

Hi Stephenson,
Yes I am using a right tape, and it should backup up 40 Gb data. And no i am not using
-s option with fbackup. And the most sad point is the backup is failing since last 16 days.

Re: Fbackup related

Have you tried inserting an additional tape.

Re: Fbackup related

Thanks Stephenson for your prompt reply,

I have a problem, that server is at a remote site. And the backup is scheduled by autosys and it runs at midnight when no onsite people are availiable. But the point is the backup is failing since last 16 days ...and not all the tapes can be bad.And yes can this cos of DLT problem also...?

Re: Fbackup related

At this point, you probably need to replace the tape drive. It would be interesting to know if the backups fail at the same point. Have you tried reading them back and listing the files? It would be very unusual for a tape drive to cause a failure at the same point in the backup.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Fbackup related

By the way, I assure you that no one who worked for me would get the slightest sympathy when he told me the backups had been failing for 16 days. Someone in your company needs to be made aware of how important this is. This is the kind of thing that can get you fired --- and rightly so.
The loss of 16 days of transactions is the kind of thing that can destroy a company.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
