all other features of ftp seem to be working ok. The system crahed due to power glitces a few times. Did something get corrupted? Does anybody have any ideas?

Re: ftp
What type of network are you transferring over?
does a xfer out work ok?
does rcp work ok?
You may want to check the networkdevice you are connected to, or try using the logging features of ftpd, see the man page.

Re: ftp
Melvyn,
Thanks for your response, to answer your questions: we can download from out hp ok, I haven't done a rcp yet, but I will try that, and, (from our network guy):
Our network is a standard Ethernet, TCP/IP network. The network interface cards (on the PC and HP), I assume, are both talking at 10 MBPS using standard TCP/IP open protocols. Both hosts are on a common LAN segment and share the same subnet address (192.168.20.0) without a router in between.
