ftps client

I need to be able to transfer data from a Novell server using FTP with SSL (AUTH SSL). I have found several clients but C-Kermit is the only one that I have been able to compile.

The problem is it does not work with the Novell server. I have no access to the Novell server so I can not mkae changes there.

Does anyone have compiled versions of any other ftps clients or an idea where I might find them.

Thanks
Steve

Re: ftps client

Rod,
How does OpenSSH help me? I already have it on the system. I need to be able to do this with SSL. If OpenSSH has something to do this would you provide the details?

Re: ftps client

Did you go to the web site for OpenSSH. If you have OpenSSH then does that mean you already tried sftp (a secure ftp using openssl) that came with it?

Re: ftps client

Steve,
There is a client product from Sterling Software that is pre-compiled for HPUX 11i and has SSL built in. This is for Command Line ftp's with SSL. Try this link;
http://www.releasesoftware.com/_sterlingcommercesoftwareshop/cgi-bin/go.cgi/webstore/category?category=Connect%3AEnterprise

They have a free demo version and its pretty cheap if you buy it. Not sure about it working with Netware. But I would think if Netware server is the FTP server in question here, they should be providing you with the correct SSL certs for your client.

There is also a free open source SSL product called LFTP but you probably need to compile it yourself under HP's openssl. I don't have much luck compiling open source on hpux servers without a lot of problems. However, others in the forums seem to enjoy that pain.

There is another company called "the written word" that has a pre-compiled LFTP depot for hpux, but it didnt use OPENSSL, so I couldnt use it for our ftp's to our bank's server. However, Sterlings product works for us and they have a bunch of server or cleint products for ftp with ssl.

Hope this helps,
Mark

Re: ftps client

Mark,
Thanks for the Sterling link, the only problem is they do not support the auth ssl mode that Novell uses. I have never been able to find the compiled version of lftp, only source which I have had no luck compiling.

Re: ftps client

Steve,
this is the company that has a compiled lftp for hpux - http://www.thewrittenword.com/

check their contact info and call the 800 number. They will probably be able to tell you whether their lftp will work with Novell.

I will ask my Novell guys if they know anything that would work.

Re: ftps client

Take a look at this site "http://www.ford-hutchinson.com/~fh-1-pfh/ftps-ext.html". It has many different clients and servers - some of which might work on HPUX or Novell.

Re: ftps client

Steve,
dont know if you are still looking at this but I did get something back today from a Novell guy - he gave 2 TIDS (Novell technical issues ) to look at- here they are:
Novell introduced secure FTP with Netware 6.5. TID 10085857 discusses 3rd-party FTP clients and configuration suggestions. TID 10093959 discusses problems people are experiencing with Novell's secure FTP.
www.novell.com's support/knowledgebase should have these.
good luck,
Mark

Re: ftps client

we have HP-UX 11i with openssl built in. Now, we need ftp over ssl as request

2. Secure FTP ├в The HSBC CES handles SSL-Secured FTP transfers. This does require the business partner├в s or the HSBC Bank├в s supplied Connect:Enterprise Client, SSL-compatible software to execute on the business partner├в s host

How could I setup ftp over ssl?
