Re: get data from a hardisk (HD)

Hi,

vgexport and vgimport is the only way,

plugging into linux or windows machine wouldn't work.

Re: get data from a hardisk (HD)

thx replies,

I don't have experience to use vgexport and vgimport , do I need to plug the HD to the UNIX machine first ? if yes , because I prefer not to shutdown the unix machine ( I only have a production server ) , is there other method ? thx

Re: get data from a hardisk (HD)

Hi,

All disks are all hot pluggable, so no need to shutdown the machine.

before exporting the VG (vgexport) make the VG off line (vgchange -a n /dev/vgxx),
then issue the command vgexport,

Plug the disk to new machine (where you need to get the data), issue the command vgimport and make the vg online (vgchange -a y /dev/vgxx). Look at man pages of vgexport and vgimport.

$man vgexport
$man vgimport
never give up

Re: get data from a hardisk (HD)

there is no way you can get data from this disk except plug disk to HP UX server/workstatiom.

Linux and windows doesn't support this.

Re: get data from a hardisk (HD)

I don't think there's any way to get the data other than to attached it to your production server or any other unix machine.

What we do if we need a server and we lack one is to contact our local vendor and ask for a loaner machine. They will loan us the machine for the duration of the activity and give it back to them afterwards.
