GNOME setup and configure

Dear sir,

I installed my HPUX11i with GNOME. I cannot find the config file under /etc/opt/gnome/gdm/gdm.conf as well as the cmd under /sbin/init.d/gdm.rc.

Any idea why as I can see the program was installed with swlist. I saw some contents of gnome under the /opt/gnome.

Thanks...

Have you verified the installation with

swlist -l fileset -a state | grep -i gnome

Does the state show "configured" ?

Please let me know.

Re: GNOME setup and configure

Hello,

Kent and Robert, thanks for your replies. I check the state of the fileset but returned with no results. Does it mean i need to re-install the gnome program? I selected the program during my OS installation.

Thank you.

Re: GNOME setup and configure

I downloaded the software depot, uninstal the default Ximian. However, installation of the new software depot failed with some files are not accessable and terminated with errors. I do not know why. May be the version is not compatible. I tried the copy comes with the core cd and only

B6848BA 1.4.gm.46.2 Ximian GNOME 1.4 GTK+ Libraries for HP-UX 11.00 and 11i

Can be found and I can install without any problem.

swinstall -a state -l fileset |grep -i gnome return with no result.

Re: GNOME setup and configure

Post /var/adm/sw/swagent.log , see why Gnome install fails. Probably some requirements.

Re: GNOME setup and configure

These are install insructions by the way:

I guess $HOME/. files also should be removed when you install different Gnome versions.

Re: GNOME setup and configure

Sorry but these errors are old -
10/15/03 14:22:19 SST END install AGENT SESSION (Aborted) <--see the date

swagent.log clearly shows that the gnome product was (re?)installed ok:

10/23/03 19:31:06 SST BEGIN install AGENT SESSION (pid=8807)
(jobid=OHPUX11i-0024)
Installing bundle "B6848BA,r=1.4.gm.46.2"

* 23 of 23 filesets had no Errors or Warnings.
* The Execution Phase succeeded.

I can see it was installed from cdrom (/mnt/cdrom), did you mount it with option -o cdcase? If yes, try without.I also saw many clear/unclear installs/uninstalls probably leaving some of the filesets. Please check on the mentioned GNOME help site what filesets you should have, check there are no remains and uninstall if there are,/sbin/init.d/swagentd stop|start and see.
And of course, break your record and give points to well deserving folks.

Re: GNOME setup and configure

I tried the downloaded depot, failed to install, hence used back the copy from the CD that I installed my OS. The application CD only contains the B6852BA software and no B6848BA been found. I saw the software description showed B6852BA with library files and presume the library file B6848BA was included. Of course when you checked my log file, it shows the last action was I re-installed the application, B6852BA from the CD with the original OS. I just do not understand why the necessary files were not created or exist. I do not wish to re-install my OS as I do not think it has any problem beside this.
I really appreciate anybody who has replied to my message. Thanks you.

Re: GNOME setup and configure

Hello,

Some info from my system:

1. /var/opt/gnome only contains gtk folder with some gtk* files.
2. cannot find gdm.rc in /sbin/init.d
3. swlist returned with
B6848BA 11.00 and 11i Ximian GNOME 1.4 GTK+ Libraries.
4. I installed HPUX11i TCE 64bits on B1000 workstation. Any problem? Version is Sept 2003.
