How to see that disk is Internal or external.

Hi All,

How to identity that the disk(s) is internal or external disk.

Is there any specific command ?

Regards,
Viswanadhan.

Re: How to see that disk is Internal or external.

hi,

No, not without knowing the hardware paths?

And what server we are talking about.

it would have to be worked out from the ioscan, but even that may not be always possible.

for example the K class has internal disks but also has external comnnector for more disks on same bus. ioscan would show all on same bus.

if the disks were attached to fibre channel hba though, this would mean they are external?

Re: How to see that disk is Internal or external.

hi,

it looks like you have a D370 then.

this can only take a maximum of 5 internal disks, these are hot pluggable aswell.

so it may not make much difference if they are int or ext disks, as usually you use the same disks internal and in the external jamaica boxes

can you post the ioscan possibly and check the server with the model command.

Re: How to see that disk is Internal or external.

It's actually not possible to tell because the internal SCSI for the hot plug bays can connect to an external bus as well. The same drive models can be used in the internal bays or in an extern A3312 (Jamaica) enclosure. The internal drives use SCSI ID's 5,8,9,10, & 11 from bottom to top but the external drives could also be configured to use those SCSI ID's.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
