How to setup Auto archive?

Hi,
We need to reduce our SAN/ESAN usage. User’s do not clean up.So we can do something like auto archive after 2 months etc.

Can you please suggest me?

Thanks

Re: How to setup Auto archive?

the question is, where are you going to archive to? You can archive anything if you have a place to put it. I mean you could always run scripts that find data that is older that 60 days, tar/gzip the data, and then move it somewhere. But if the only place you have to put the data is back on the same SAN device it seems pointless to go through the trouble.
"The difference between me and you? I will read the man page." and "Respect the hat." and "You could just do a search on ITRC, you don't need to start a thread on a topic that's been answered 100 times already." Oh, and "What. no points???"

Re: How to setup Auto archive?

You need to spend a few minutes defining your problem.

What does "after 2 months etc." mean? 2 months since the last access, 2 months since the last file modification? Moreover, 2 months is a very ill defined term as well. What is 2 months after Dec. 30? Feb. 30? I don't think so. "60 days" is much more precise than "2 months". What are you archiving to? Optical Disk? Tape? Conventional Disk? I think that when you begin to define your question with precision you will implicitly have your answers.

You may want to look into a Hierarchical File System which may very well do what you want automatically.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
