I have a system running on a rx8620 os version hp-ux 11i v2. MC/SG 11.17 with CFS.
The application is weblogic.
The cpu utilization is high.
I will migrate my system to rx4640 servers. Indeed I want to install hp-ux 11i v3 on these servers and migrate the application to this server.
Did you experience it?
HP presales engineers told me that 11i v3 is providing more performance at cpu and I/O utilization.
Do you think that I can live problems?
I am waiting for your comments and experiences.
Thanks
Deniz

Re: HP-UX 11i v3
You don't mention the version of Weblogic you are running, but I can't see any version of Weblogic listed as available for 11iv3 yet (given 11iv3 only became available yesterday thats not so surprising).
You say your CPU util is high, but give no further indication of the problem - has any kind of perf monitoring/tuning been attempted on this system? Weblogic (and in fact all J2EE app servers) don't tend to scale too well, in that as soon as you get above 2 CPUs per J2EE instance performance starts to fall off, and when you get above 4 CPUs it falls off very quickly. If you're running a single Weblogic instance on an 8620 on more than 4 cores you might want to look at altering your Weblogic configuration to operate with more than 1 instance and PSETs to ensure each individual instance is restricted to 4 CPUs or less.

SolutionI would never consider using a new HP-UX release until at least 1 perhaps 2 bi-annual patch sets were released to stablize it.
If your applications are not certified you should stick with 11i v2 until all your applications are certified and then migrate with a cold install.
You also might find rx6660 servers more suited to this need. I've worked with this platform at the HP performance center and its very solid.

Re: HP-UX 11i v3
I would agree with Steve.
It's a bad idea to migrate a production application to a OS release which has only just been released.I would apply the same methodology of 2 releases behind for patch updates also.

Re: HP-UX 11i v3
Where I am we will be imbracing 11iv3 - bgut we will deploy through our DEV, then QA, then Prod servers.
That said - the timeline between environment deployment may be sped up if performance/feature gains would help with any issues in PROD.
As far as rx8620 to rx4640 - the 8620 is considerered mid range and the 4640 is entry level (I think).
The 8600 can have up to 16 cpu cores and the 4640 only 8.

The application vendors should be your first stop when checking on OS support issues.
