HP-UX Message manual

Hi,

Does anyone know of the existence/location of a comprehensive message manual for HP-UX? We have them for several other flavors OS's, but have been unable to find anything for HP-UX.

Thanks,
Marc

Re: HP-UX Message manual

HPUX doesn't have any such manual. If there is I'm sure I would have had one by now.... :^))

The standard unix error messages are found in: /usr/include/sys/errno.h

All various products have their own way of reporting and dealing with errors. One of the best ways to find errors (usually that have already been reported) is to do a search from this screen.
Over here <---

Even if no such error is found in the forums, there are many guys in here who can interpret them.

Re: HP-UX Message manual

There are also command-specific errors for some commands located in /usr/lib/nls/C

The files all have a .cat extension

To view the error details (including return codes), use

dumpmsg | more

Re: HP-UX Message manual

Hi,

Would /usr/include/sys/errno.h contain the errors that might get listed in say /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log ???

Not to highjack this thread, but where can I get a definitive list of the errors that would get reported here ?

I am actually after the important ones, ie. erros and warnings of a more serious nature that should be paid attention to.
