Re: hp-ux simulator

Not that I know of. To learn basic UNIX-y stuff (not sysadmin), Linux wouldn't be too bad.

Look at Ebay to get a cheap machine to run HP-UX. A D class server would be good, or maybe something like a 715 workstation. You could also ask your local HP sales rep for the names of local resellers -- you could also get something on the HP "gray market" to help out.

Good luck.

Re: hp-ux simulator

I agree with the linux suggestion. You can run it on a PC, you don't need to have anything very powerful. It's easy to install and although not identical in command syntax to HP-UX, it's a reasonable start to get into Unix commands and shells and has LVM etc. Once you get used to one system, it's not too difficult to pick up commands specific to other platforms. If it really annoys you, you could get used to the "alias" command :-

alias bdf='df -k'

Re: hp-ux simulator

1) no simulator seen around
2) Depends on what do you expect :
a) purchase hp-ux supported hardware
b) Linux etc
c) Install unix simulator for basic/interm.
like Cygewin, even comes with Xwin support,Apache and other goodies.

Hi Anil.

i don't have any simulations of hp-ux box but ik have a nice unix_tools witch you have to copy on your pc. After that you should be able to practise with this command:
ls
grep
sort
tail
mv
cp........etc

good luck with practising !
