ignite diskcopy via LAN
I'm a total newbie at using Ignite. Is it possible to use Ignite to copy a disk (without Ignite on it) to another disk on the same machine by using Ignite on another machine that is connected by a LAN?

Re: ignite diskcopy via LAN
The command is make_net_recovery. Now there are some basic rules about recovery over the network:
If the target machine is still running, you can push the reinstall from the Ignite/UX server.
If the target is dead (ie, a blank or unbootable disk) then *some* machines have the ability to boot from the LAN, others (older servers) do not. For servers that cannot boot over the LAN, there is a make_boot_tape which will create a bootable tape with enough network code to contact a remote server.
If the machine can boot over the LAN, the boot ROMs are limited to the local subnet as the UDP requests are not passed through by routers. If you want, you can follow the guidelines in the man pages for creating a boot helper machine on the local subnet(s). They perform the initial boot code for the dead machine at which point there is enough code to reach a remote network.
Be sure you have a lot of extra disk space on the Ignite server to hold the image(s).
