Re: Ignite-UX

You need IgniteUX admin guide - http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5992-4731/index.html

create golden image drom your server and after that use that image for remaining installations.

Re: Ignite-UX

Hi Ivan Krastev,

Thanks for ur quick response.. I already have the document you have mentioned....

I was wondering how will I be able to create a S/w depot and from there how can I install it on to the other OS 11.31...

I'm running a 11.31 OS on my server and have the following on my blade... the other 7.. I'll have to load the OS... as it is a brand new server..and would like to install HP-UX at a stretch on all of them..

Plz advise

Re: Ignite-UX

3 out of more possibilities:

1) copy the installer DVD to the ignite server and cold-install all blades from this source

2) cretae a golden image of your first blade and distribute this to all others via ignite

3) clone the disks (do you have the hardware mirror now?)

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Ignite-UX

Hi Torsten,

I was just waiting for you...

I couldn't buy Mirrior-UX, So looks like Option 3 is ruled out.

I do not know much about option 1 & 2 and so I am reading the document now...

Re: Ignite-UX

Again I am missing something here..

I have the 11i v3 dvd in the external usb DVD drive and was trying "make_depots" but got the below o/p

MAHP01:/ # make_depots

both -d and -r options missing

Usage: make_depots -d destination_depot [-r release] [options] [-?]
make_depots -r release [options] [-?]

-d destination_depot Specifies destination depot name
-r release Specifies release name for target depot
-? Displays this help screen

Options include:

-s source_depot Specifies source depot name (default is /dev/rmt/0m)
-o os_revision Restricts bundles to this release only
-a [700|800] Restricts bundles to this architecture only
-m release_suffix Specifies the release suffix for depots
-x swcopy_option Specifies options to pass to swcopy
-i Restricts bundles to only those ignitable
-v Displays verbose mode
-p Displays preview mode
-l log_file Specifies the log file (default is
/var/opt/ignite/logs/make_depots)
-k Inhibits ejection of DDS media

MAHP01:/ # make_depots^?^?^?^?^?^?^?^?^?^?^?^?^?

What is the correct way of usage... and whenever I press backspace or delete I get junk characters... how can I manage it..

Re: Ignite-UX

All 3 are not complicated.

Just select an ignite server. No run "ignite" and select the "copy DVDs" option. Now the server is creating a software depot. You can also copy (swcopy) more software from the application media.

Just boot the client and the installation is almost the same as installing from DVD, only faster, because the source is your ignite server.

If you have a hardware RAID, cloning (roaming) should be easy - if you don't have, you can also use DRD - dynamic root disk for cloning.

Last but not least here is a short document for golden images:

http://docs.hp.com/en/6770/golden.images.pdf

It is made for vPars, but it is very, very similar for non-vPars systems too.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Ignite-UX

OK, your disks are not mirrored.

You can use DRD (and configure the hostname and IP during the initial boot), but I would really recommend to use a MIRROR!

Did you already decide which ignite procedure to use?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Ignite-UX

I was planning to use the below one under your guidance

2) Create a Golden Image of this ...

On my first blade I just have the OS Installed and now I have connected the external DVD drive to it with the 11.31 dvd in it..

I still have 7 other brand new blades in the c7000 enclosure with no OS on them.So I will be installing the OS for the first time on these blades as well.

As I have never done a golden Image or anything of that sort.. thinking to update myself and also install the OS on the rest of the blades...

So what should be my next step now....

Re: Ignite-UX

Shalom,

To give you the ability to more easily migrate your configuration beyond just blades, you might want to consider Ignite Golden images.

These images can include post install scripting to complete mirroring.

Re: Ignite-UX

If you want to have the blades productive one day, you should create the hardware mirror **before** installing anything to the disks. I posted the manual many times to your other threads ...

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Ignite-UX

Ok.... First I would Implement Hardware raid on all of the other blades... which have 2 disks each..

So it would be like i can use both the disks

Re: Ignite-UX

Thanks Torsten... I now have mirriorred all the blades..

Now I will have to install the OS..

As I have never done a golden Image or anything of that sort.. thinking to update myself and also install the OS on the rest of the blades...

I was just wondering where to start with..

which command to start with... to create the Golden Image and ignite it.

Re: Ignite-UX

just to reconfirm, I am planning to hit the return key at the following command...

MAHP01# make_depots -r B.11.31 \ -s MAHP01:/depots/11.31/B5725AA

is the above command ok...plz corrrect me if I am wrong

Re: Ignite-UX

First you need 2 servers: the source server (your first blade) and a second (the ignite server). Best to have both in the same subnet. The ignite server can run 11.11, 11.23 or 11.31.

Now proceed here:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-3336/ch09s02.html#cegbcbaf

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Ignite-UX

Ohhh.....

So as I understand I should have two blades with 11.31 running on them... so that I can install the OS on to the other blades at a stretch...

And I will have to connect the used dvd drive manually to my second blade to load the OS

Am I right
Grayh

Re: Ignite-UX

And if it is only one blade with OS and remaining 7 with no OS... then

On my first Blade I will have to execute the following:

#/opt/ignite/data/scripts/make_sys_image
#chmod 777 /tmp/make_sys_image
#mkdir -p /var/opt/ignite/archives/Rel_B.11.23
#make_sys_image

And this will install OS on my other 7 blades as well....

Re: Ignite-UX

To install 11.31 on to my 7 other blades in the enclosure I would need two servers running hp-ux and not one.

and then I would be able to install OS using the golden image on the other 6 blades.

Step 1: Create golden Image on server 1

Step 2:Install Ignite UX on server 2.

step 3: copy /opt/ignite/data/scripts/make_sys_image to /tmp on server 1 or server2..(I am confused)

Step4: #mkdir -p /var/opt/ignite/archives/Rel_B.11.31
Step5: ????

and this will install OS on servers 3,4,5,6,7 and 8.

all are blades in one enclosure..
And during the OS installation I will have to provide Static IP's when prompted during the installation
Torsten.

Re: Ignite-UX

make_sys_image is just the first step ... please refer to the link I posted above ...

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Ignite-UX

Hi Torsten

Do I need to have 1 server to do this or 2 servers running hp-ux...

Can I do this with 1 server and install on the other 7 or would I require 2 servers and install over the other 6....

I have read the document and it dosent mention whether I require 1 server or two .... would it be possible to give a step by step command...

As I am installing with ignite for the first time... and this will also make me understand the process..

Thank you..
