Re: is non stop server os superior than hpux
As already mentionned, fault tolerent is a completely different architecture where everything is more than redundant and can be almost changed without disrupting anything (in theory) and so is out of price, whereas HA (serviceGuard) is trying to achieve the same goal by migrating applications (packages) from a faulty server to good one in a cluster...
All the best

Re: is non stop server os superior than hpux
Uwe's description even is an understatement.
In NonStop, EVERY SINGLE instruction is executed in parallel by DIFFERENT components, and compared before continuing.
And for the paranoid, DIFFERENT can be more than two. They even have special hardware that recognises, and eliminated, the bad effects of the occasional cosmic rays!
I have witnessed (not live, alas, but on video) the dismantling of a RUNNING system to less than half of the original. Then re-assemble with spare parts, and detach anything that was not previously replaced...
while the system KEPT RUNNING!
If you want to take such systems down,
A. you have to have VERY elevated authorisation ( WAY above simple ROOT ) and execute the magic incantations on a special service console, or
B. detonate enough dynamite, semtex or equivalent close enough to REALLY shatter things thoroughly.
But even then, chances are that you will only get half of capacity. Because there probably is a remote site which executes the same instruction in the same milisecond, and is capable of recognising its partner truely gone, so it will CONTINUE on its own. And take CONTINUE literally, that is, NOT failing over, NOT restarting, not even restarting the current transaction.
Only STRATUS and VMS can do remotely similar things (albeit by quite dissimilar methods).
hth.
Proost.
Have one one me.

"Stratus" isn't an operating system --- it's the name of a company. Its been around for quite awhile.

In fact, this "glossy" overview from Stratus gives a nice overview of what the Continuum line offers with HP-UX:

Re: is non stop server os superior than hpux
Thanks for suggesting link for training. non-stop server seems to be state-of-the-art (very high end) servers. I am not sure its deployment all over the world mostly europe, usa and australia. I am thinking to work in uk and australia like countries as sys admin for higher end servers.
After getting training in non-stop servers, will it help me to get a better paid job. I understand too common technology may not fetch better salary as there may be too many people available.
7 years ago i learned lots of windows technologies, linux and oracle but i had a hard time to find a job in the usa.
Because windows, linux and oracle skills are very common and easiest to learn and work. Probably people who are looking out for lucrative career path may be disappointed in the long run.
My above viewpoint is based from sys admin perspective.
I am targetting to work on higher end systems after getting sufficient training.
Experienced sys admin gurus on this forum may like to share their experience.
Thanks,
Shiv
