ivm avio_stor/scsi disks?

Hey;

I'm currently installing my first integrity virtual machine. The ignite process seems to be working quite well so far.

I had an issue while doing the initial configuration. When I configured what is to be the boot disk using avio_stor, the ignite server said the system had no disks. When I removed it and readded it as a scsi disk, it worked just fine.

This would seem to imply that the boot disk can't be avio_stor possibly because the drivers aren't loaded yet. Curiously, though, I *am* able to use avio_lan for the virtual nic.

Anyone have any ideas on this? Am I supposed to be able to use avio_stor for the boot device? Would setting it to avio_stor after the ignite be viable?

BTW, this is vm host is 11.31 using HPVM 4.0. Any thoughts, ideas, missing concepts would be greatly appreciated.

Re: ivm avio_stor/scsi disks?

Re: ivm avio_stor/scsi disks?

According to the manual you have to ensure to install HostAVIOStor on the host and GuestAVIOStor during the install.

Table 2-3 HP-UX Guest Patches in the release note lists also a number of needed patches.

Hope this helps!

Re: ivm avio_stor/scsi disks?

One point to make, is that teh following patches MUST be installed on the hOST after installing IVM 4.0:
PHSS_38566 - HPVM-CORE patch
PHSS_38567 - VM Scheduler (vmagent) patch
PHSS_38611 - 11.31 HPVMUPGRADE patch
PHSS_38631 - HPVM Serviceguard Tool kit patch

Also, once installed an dthe AVIO drivers loaded on teh Guest OS, you can convert to aviostor

Re: ivm avio_stor/scsi disks?

Hi all - I'm sure this is definately related to the version of Ignite you are using...I had the same thing yesterday and simply upgraded to the latest version of Ignite and it was fine.

I'm sure upgrading Ignite will fix the issue...

Cheers,
Graham.

Re: ivm avio_stor/scsi disks?

Hey;

Thanks for the data. My ignite version is 7.5.142. The current one available is 7.7.98, so I'm not too far out of date. I'll try the upgrade.

Due to a fat-finger, I've temporarily lost access to my vm host. Once I get that back, I'm going to try resetting the boot disk to avio_stor and see if that works.

Thanks again.

Re: ivm avio_stor/scsi disks?

Hey;

Turns out I didnt have gueststor on the system from which I made the golden image. Once I added it to the vms, I was able to reset everything to avio_stor - along with the requisite rebuilding of the /etc/lvmtab because the root disk moved.

Thanks for the help; appreciate the responses.
