Been using the Veritas Netbackup 4.5 on rp7410 running HPUX 11.11. System has 2 CPUs (875 MHz) and 8GB memory.
The Veritas app is java based and runs PAINFULLY slow. Have been in contact with Veritas tech support but they have been unable to come up with anything.
What I have verified, The HP is running at 1000MBits FD, I am running at 100FD. The switch port is locked at 100FD. I have modified the jnbSa.conf file to have INITIAL_MEMORY=96M and MAX_MEMORY=1296M - no luck. (Did this in 1 other file as well.)
Are there some kernel parms that need looking at as well?
Many thanks!

SolutionWe NEVER run jnbSA as an X Application -- accross a network. We always run it locally .. either via a VNC Session OR if the server has its own Graphics Console & Keyboard...
If it still is slow, check with Veritas what Kernel Params you need to tune or better yet, check your Java version...
HTH.

Re: java apps going real slow
Connected to the vncserver running on the HPUX. The java is running MUCH faster. OK, it is not a Veritas problem, but what welse could it be? I have checked and verified net connections (1000FD on HPUX, 100FD on Linux)
and the switch (locked in - noauto) but still no joy.
Any other ideas? Please?
Thanks

Re: java apps going real slow
The big vendors know this and poor us need only look at VNC as the current fix.

Re: java apps going real slow
Many thanks for your feedback. I suspected JAVA but was hoping otherwise.
Many thanks for the idea of running the VNC for the JAVA apps.

Re: java apps going real slow
Java is a hog...
is a hog
a hog
hog.
Did I tell you that because of Java.. my Superdome n-Par is projected to be a 128GB system?
Java.. a hog.
But then is still universally good if done right, if architected right and yout VM (virtual machine) is good.

Re: java apps going real slow
Cheers,
Jeff (Who's found the Veritas vea util slow even when run locally. I don't think Java is their forte frankly.)

Re: java apps going real slow
A good one on how JAVA as an acronym should be interpreted!
Ha ha ha!
