lan card not enable with sam
I have an hp server with 2 network cards, each 10/100,If using sam to check them, only lan1 is enable.lan0 is not.I then use ifconfig lan0 up/down to bring up & down and then up again.
With ifconfig lan0,shows lan is up,etc, accordingly.there is no activity green light on the card itself.
Please how can resolve this problem?

Re: lan card not enable with sam
hello,
Did you check the cable? If the cable or the network connectivity is not proper, then the lan card will go DOWN. You can check it by swapping the network cable of the working card with the other one. Also check the output of:
#lanscan
# netstat
rgds,

Re: lan card not enable with sam
if you have a separate LAN card (PCI card), then you need to verify that the driver has been installed. It will not be part of the default system installation. You can normally find the driver on the first disk of the application software set (4 - 5 cdrom set)... the driver patch will patch the part number... this will require a reboot if the driver needs to be installed. After that you should see the driver in SAM, etc.... you can also search HP by entering the part number and driver to find the download of the driver in case you do not have the cdrom.... reboot still required here.

Re: lan card not enable with sam
Thanks for the response.
I think it might be a driver problem.
What if I run : insf -e ?
Remember ifconfig lan0 shows that lan0 is up.
lanscan & netstat shows same.
Pls advice further.
Thanks.
Nsikan.
