lpd printers
We are running an Intermec radio frequency out in our Mfg facility for barcoding.
The printers are serial printers. Recently we purchases a Mercury-RF unit designed to hook to the serial port of the printer and it assigns an IP. A Radio Frequency print server.
The documentation calls for the Unix set up to be a "lpd" printer. The assigned protocol on the unit is "lpd" For the life of me I don't know how to set up an LPD printer using SAM, or even how to begin.
If someone could "kick start" me, I sure would appreciate.
Hoping this unit will really help us out, we have major lock up problems with the printers being hooked directly to the Intermec terminals..brings production to a stand still, until that Intermec terminal is re-booted.
ANY HELP SURE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Re: lpd printers
Try setting up a network printer in SAM and give the network name of the printer as
the remote computer if the printer supports LPD this should be able to print directly to it.
Printer Name = what ever you want to call it
Remote System Name = the name or IP address of the LPD server
Remote printer name = This can be obtained from the manufacturer different ones have different names I think HP's jetdirect is called RAW or text, This is not the network name of the printer it is an internally assigned name.

Minimum effort maximum output!

Re: lpd printers
SAM will create an "lpd" type print queue if you use the "create a remote print queue" action. Use the printers IP address as the remote system IP/hostname and whatever the MFG of the print server requests as the name of the remote print queue. This is usually "text" or "raw".
