make_recovery questions

Hi All

We have a K class machine with HPUX 11 install on it. Is it possible to use make_recovery from K class and restore it in Rp7400 machine?

Thanks in advance

Re: make_recovery questions

Hello,

yes you can try it but when you boot on the ignite tape you have to interrupt the booting sequence to process interactively with the recovery procedure...

normally if the hardware doesn't correspond to the machine where the make_recovery was made the boot sequence on the tape is automatically interrupt...

Re: make_recovery questions

I would fancy the "evolutionary gap" between K-class and RP74XX is too big for it to work.
But as Stf replied, you should give it a try.
More than that it won't work couldn't happen anyway.

Re: make_recovery questions

In order for this to be successful the K image has to contain the necessary patches for the rp7400 (Dec 2001 or greater). An image from any Kx00, Kx10, Kx20 would fail as they are 32 bit only and the rp7400 is 11.x 64 bit only.

Re: make_recovery questions

There will be one, possibly two extra boots as the rp7400 machine adjusts to the radical differences in hardware.

Its also possible this will fail after many hours of work.

Another option to consider is Ignite Golden Imaging. This is less hardware dependent.

Re: make_recovery questions

NO way man :)
Even you can do it :)
Better do not :)
Only suport Unix on RP7400 is 11.00 or later. Also on K server you have not PCI bus. Also 64 bit is a must.
Also patches , and drivers for new HW :)

Re: make_recovery questions

Just for the record - the old D, K, and T boxes are indeed 64 bit. So, you can conceptually load the OS, but I'm thinking you could get hung on the difference between the buses. The good news is that it hurts nothing to try.
