Re: Max number Lun´s
There are limits on how many LINS a non-HP array can present.
I'm not familiar with the XP256. If HP makes it it should be capable of presenting at least 120-128 LUNS.

Re: Max number Lun´s
HP Volume Set Addressing is a "workaround" that HP developed
to accomodate the large address space of FCP (Fibre Channel
Protocol).
This sections discusses how VSA works.
a. VSA uses three "address entitites":
o VBUS 0-7
o Target 0-15
o LUN 0-7
c. The "cX" part of the cXtTdD address changes when the VBUS changes
on the same FA.
o Because you could duplicate Target and LUN (device) on the
same string, and that would give you a duplicate address.
4. COUNTS / LIMITS:
a. If you do some arithmetic:
o "String" limit = Targets * LUNs
= 16 * 8 = 128
- However, the VCMDB is 0-0-0, so that leaves 127
on the 1st VBUS string.
o "FA limit" for all VBUS, Targets and LUNS is
= 8 x 128 - 1 = 1023
I can tell you how to change the "vbus" on the EMC Symmetrix; but not on the XP256. You have to call HP and ask them. Maybe someone on this forum knows. Try the "storage forum".

Re: Max number Lun´s
On your 256 have you alloted these luns to your machine? I.E. secured a path to the machine.
Best of luck.

Re: Max number Lun´s
Another thing to think about, as you are approaching your max LUN anyway, you may be saturating that channel with I/O. You should probably start to think about a second path from that server. Can't remember exactly, but that sounds like a card for the K-series, they may be hard to find now.
