NFSKTCPD process using 100% of cpu on K460
is using 50% of the systems cpu resources. I understand this
process is initiated from a client and that it can't be killed. The
process jumps between cpu's using up all of the cpu. I have about
10 workstations(C3000,C3600,B2600) that NFS mount a RAID
partition. Everything still works ok except the system is slow.
I have installed the following patches in hopes of fixing the problem, but it didn't work. PHNE_24910,PHCO_24777,
PHKL_24255, PHKL_24551,PHKL_24569,PHKL_25728,
PHKL_25729,PHKL_25840,PHKL_25842. Also, all the special
installation instructions were followed.
This system also has 2 nic cards and when I removed the cables
and rebooted the process did not return. Then I connected the
network cables and still no process. Then I rebooted a client
workstation and boom there is the process.
As a possible work around, I have reniced the process to a low
level of 39.
I am not running NIS. Could it be a possible NFS 2 vs 3 problem?
Any suggestions.??
Thanks in advance.

NFS 2 to 3 and vica versa has problems, Hp-UX 11 installs by default V3 and 10.20 V2.
Either down load V3 from the HP site or upgrade your 10.20 servers to 11.

Re: NFSKTCPD process using 100% of cpu on K460
I forgot to mention the K460 is running HP-UX 11.11
and the workstations are running 11.0.

Re: NFSKTCPD process using 100% of cpu on K460
Have you patched both 11.11 and 11.00??
Patch Name: PHNE_24909

Re: NFSKTCPD process using 100% of cpu on K460
I'll have to check the patches on the workstations. Good idea.

Re: NFSKTCPD process using 100% of cpu on K460
Suggest you update the NFS patches on your system. Look for ONC/NFS General Release patch in particular.
Hope this helps.

Re: NFSKTCPD process using 100% of cpu on K460
By some strange reason, the cpu
usage has dropped to .01 for this
process. I didn't even patch any
of the clients. I still plan to patch the
clients.
Thanks to all for your help.
