hi, I read in the login: (french) magazine that the PA 8700 has been independantly tested as the fastest cpu in the world.
Second is the alpha, followed by the pentium IV.
Apparently helped by large L1 cache (can someone explain this to me here) and moderate L2 cache (this too needs explaining)
I don't know exactly where they pulled their benchmarks from.. but can anyone comment further on this. The PA8700 is shipping on Ns and Superdomes and Vs.
Is it true even after this that PA only has a lifespan of 4 more years before ia takes over?
Later,
Bill

Solution
Bill,
Everything your mother never told you about the PA8700 can be found here:
http://cpus.hp.com/technical_references/parisc.shtml#PA-8700
There will be a few years of
coexistent of PA-RISC and the Itanium
processor family. Many HP server
systems available today, such as the HP
rp5400 series or the Superdome series,
are upgradeable to future generations
of the Itanium processor family.

There is no good troubleshooting with bad data
