Patch Level Check

Hi, is there an easy way to check the patch level of the overall system? E.g, SP for MS and ML for AIX. Thanks.

Re: Patch Level Check

errr...

"uname -r" will display the current release level of the operating system...

use the swlist command to get details about specific products/bundles/patches/etc....

Re: Patch Level Check

You may want to use CPM(custom patch manager) on ITRC.

or not sure this is what you need: do this:

# swlist -l patch

Re: Patch Level Check

Hi Jim, will the release level change each time the system is patched, either with individual patches or with the support plus cd? Thanks.

Re: Patch Level Check

The OS release level does not change, unless you specifically do an OS upgrade. E.g., upgrading from HP-UX 11.00 to HP-UX 11.11.

There are literally thousands of patches for all aspects of the system. Patches are individual (or sets of individual) pieces of code (programs) used to correct flaws or enhance functionality in particular subsystems and applications. Simply applying patches will not change the OS release level.

Re: Patch Level Check

Hi all, thanks for the replies. I'm actually looking for an indication of how updated the overall system is. Something like the service pack number in Microsoft or Maintenance Level in AIX. The patch list from swlist or show_patches is too long and I think may be more relevant to individual patch level than for the overall system. Pls advise and correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

Re: Patch Level Check

The actual number you after used to be called the 'DART' number. That has now been superceded by the quality patch bundle.

Have a look here:
http://www.software.hp.com/SUPPORT_PLUS/qpk.html#over

TO get your current version numbers based on the quality pack number use:
# swlist -a revision

Re: Patch Level Check

Hi,

#swlist |grep -i patches

shows patches of Mar,June,Sept,Dec of an year,

i.e the system has been patched to that level eg: in one my m/c

GOLDAPPS11i B.11.11.0206.4 Gold Applications Patches for HP-UX 11i, June 2002
GOLDBASE11i B.11.11.0206.4 Gold Base Patches for HP-UX 11i, June 2002

So this my m/c has been patched to June 2002 patch level.

Re: Patch Level Check

My 'ux' script on http://www.cmve.net/~merijn or https://www.beepz.com/personal/merijn is finding out as much as we want to know, and works on HP-UX and AIX alike. I've tried it on a Bull machine last wednesday, and - since it claims to be 100% AIX compatible - it worked like a charm.

Please try it, and tell me it it needs more.
